Wrote... Was at Beaver Road from 1964-70. Had a brilliant time and a great education. Teachers included Mrs Dearden Mr Hollins (a demon with a ruler but a really nice man) Miss Butterfield (whose uncle had been chairman of United after the Munich air disaster) and Mrs Beasley. Playtimes were football football and more football with an occasional marbles and conkers season. Does anyone know what happened to my friends David Young and Anjam Majid. I am still in touch with Mandy Shaul who married one of my closest friends.

Wrote... Good to hear from you Zesha - we never forget any of our Beaver Roaders! Thanks Sophia for looking after Bravo so kindly - I am sure he will be asking to stay at your house again. Check out the amazing stuff on the Learning Day by Day pages. That's what I like so much about our School - we take on big challenges but have lots of fun while we're doing it! How many weeks to go before Christmas? We have got to fit in so many activities and events before then. Advent starts this Sunday so many thanks to our friends from Ivy Cottage for telling us all about it in Assembly on Monday. We have lots of visitors from schools in China coming next week and our PTA have planned a brilliant Christmas Fair for Sunday 4 December. Then there's the Christmas Music Concert at Parrs Wood High School, the Panto in Manchester, the choir singing at the Cathedral. Wow - I had better stop there and get on with some work!!

Wrote... I'm an old, old girl of Beaver Road! I enjoyed your short video and it certainly brought back many memories of my Beaver Rd years, from around the mid 1960's. Looking back, I can honestly say that the education I received at Beaver Rd set me up for life and many of those basic lessons I still use every day. It is wonderful to see the school thriving and achieving so well. Best wishes from 'down under'!

Wrote... I can't wait for tomorrow. Miss Mistry has invited me on the Year 6 trip to North Yorkshire. The children have been working very hard reviewing all the history they have done in Key Stage 2. We are going to Eden Camp in the morning and Whitby in the afternoon. I can't wait for the fish and chips! We are then getting the steam train from Whitby to Pickering before heading to the youth hostel in York. Mr Dale has told me the breakfast is excellent! I can't wait to go to the National Railway Museum in York on Wednesday - steam trains are my favourite. I wonder if they have finished repairing the Flying Scotsman yet? We finish in the afternoon at York Minster and back to Beaver Road in time for tea. Time to go as I've got to be at school for 7.30 in the morning. I'm stopping with Mr Anderson and his family tonight to make sure I get to school on time in the morning. Goodness me he has a lot of children. I hope he has a bed for me to sleep in!

Wrote... Just been on a brilliant trip to Marseille in southern France. Met up with Marius and Hermione and Knut again. I expect Miss Richards, Mrs Gill and Mrs Beckett will be telling you all about it when they get back on Monday. Our project with schools in Marseille, Berlin and Oxford is all about the Olympic Games which takes place in London next year. I heard that mr Anderson did a special assembly on Friday all about the Olympics. I will ask him to put it up on the big screen so I can find out what I missed. Wrote... Just one day to go and I'll be seeing all my friends again! So excited! Today I have been going round the School with Mr How and John from the builders, to make sure everything is ready for the Big Day. There are just a few bits and pieces to finish off - like painting the School railings - and Ben, Denis, Steve and the cleaners are working SO hard to clear up before Wednesday. Wrote... Hi Everyone! You should see what's happening at School ready for the new School Year! New classrooms for Year 1 and Year 4 (and the Y5 classroom in the Main Building). Lots of new stuff to help disabled children and adults as well. The builders should be finished by the end of next week. Then more work for our caretakers and cleaners getting ready for all of us! I have heard a rumour that there will be a new fence in the Y4 playground and the railings all round the front of the School are getting a refurb. Looking good for September. Wrote... Hello people, I used to come to Beaver Road and left in 2006, now I've finished Parrs Wood High School and currently taking my GCSEs. I remember the times of Friends of Beaver Road where a group of Year 6 students would play with the little kids at lunch time! I remember the time when Mrs Horner shouted at me and told to stand facing the wall haha! Mr Warren was definitely the best teacher I ever had, since we were his first ever class in BR. 5W remains the best haha. Also, a hello for the great Mr Dale! Memories of: Mrs Thompson as the Headteacher, the janitor dressing up as Santa Claus haha, the Year 6 prom, sports day, mrs dunkerly the chef haha, the amazing chocolate fudge cake with sponge( please can anyone give me the recipe or the place to but it from please), mrs Murray making us sing at assembly times and all the plays and receiving the infamous dictionary as a leaving gift haha! The School is called St Philip and St James Church of England School but everyone knows it as Phil and Jim! Oxford is a beautiful city. Wrote... I recently viewed Beaver Road School on a documentary program about gifted children. I also viewed it on Google Maps and it brought up a lot of happy memories. My four siblings and I went to Beaver Road School during the 1967/68 year. My father, who was a professor, was on a sabbatical from Carleton University in Ottawa, Canada. We rented a house on Cranmer Road near Fog Lane Park. I was in grade two at the time, my classroom opened out directly onto a courtyard. I remember small bottles of milk at the classroom door each morning and eating lunch in the lunch room. We were often fed custard for dessert. I also remember standing on some warm pipes in the (cloak room?) during the damp winter months and getting itchy feet as a result. If I recall correctly, the school uniform was green and gray. Upon our arrival, children were often asking us to speak so they could hear our Canadian accent. I remember the faces and names of several of my classmates and friends. Who knows how their lives have played out and where they are now. I am a teacher in Ottawa and enjoy my job.

I popped in this morning to water the seed beds and mow the lawns....whilst I was doing that there was a rustle and a flurry, then out popped Mrs Mallard and SEVEN ducklings. I have taken a few pics and shall try to put them on the site....we'll see. AND there are signs of growth in the seed beds...lots of tiny weeds, as you would expect, but definitely peas and beans coming through!! Yay!! Now we need some rain!! (I can't believe I said that!)

All this "txt-speak" in the postings below makes me feel old and think of Mr. Birkhead. He would surely be reaching for his slipper in some cases! Does anyone know if Mr. Birkhead is still around? The fact that I can remember him so well from nearly 40 years ago means he left a real impression (no pun intended). Best wishes to all, and if you're a current pupil reading this, count yourself lucky you're at a great school. Enjoy your time, life gets harder when you leave school, I promise you that. TTFN .-)

Fred Hamer was Headmaster back in the 1960's and I fondly remember many of the teaching staff from 1/3 through to 6/3. I was House Captain in '66 of Clive, one of 4 houses along with Scott, Drake and Nelson. My family lived on Beaver Road - my father was a Pharmacist operating from #27. Wrote... You Year 4s at Ghyll Head were awesome. How did you manage to yomp up the Old Man of Coniston in such a quick time! Did you have supercharged boots on or something! Just got back from Ireland where I met up with all my brothers and sisters. Had a good look at the Giant's Causeway. Ask Mr How to tell you the legend of how it was formed! Belfast was really interesting. A city that has seen so much trouble in its history (bombings, shootings and nasty stuff) and now so peaceful! Made me feel good. Dublin was great. Hot and sunny and lots of families out on the streets and in the parks watching bands playing and samba bands rocking. I saw that special martial arts that they do in Brazil - brilliant. Anyone know what it's called? Off to Aberdovey with Y5 this weekend. Lots of sailing and canoeing I think. Good luck to England tomorrow!

However my grounding served me well and I went on to University and a successful career. I wonder how many of my contemporaries are still around? Wrote... Hi everyone! I've been reading the Year 6 comments... its seems you're all pretty nervous about your SATs. Don't worry, they are fine...and although you may be doing too much maths for your own good at the moment... it's worth it coz afterwards you get to go to cool places and play rounders like, all day everyday! :D I'm at Cheadle Hulme now, and everyone's starting to stress over the summer exams. 2 weeks after May Half term, we have summer exams in all subjects for one week, and have to start revising now. All the marks count towards our grades in each subject! its pretty scary! On Friday we did an open book history exam.... I was really nervous because it counted for 20% of my grade! But I suppose after you've finished your exams, you can relax and have fun in the (hopefully) sun! Remember you are all going to do really well in your SATs because you have been revising so hard! I have visited many times in the past and, as ever, I found the staff and Head Teacher Mr. How extremely helpful (especially Mrs Knight on this visit). The group of trainee teachers got a great deal from the visit and we all wish to pass on our thanks.

Wrote... Wow Mr Ridyard...that makes me nearly as old as you! I work as an assistant at the school prior to becoming old and decrepit....some people say I am like that already!! Let me know if there's anything specific about the school you would like detail about which isn't already on the website. Classes are no higher than 30 nowadays....all classes have interactive white boards and virtually all children are computer literate well before they leave the school. When did you leave for Queensland? What was your best memory of our school? And what advice would you give children in their final year here? All good wishes

Wrote... I was supposed to be going to Poland this week to meet up with schools from other countries. I was stranded at Liverpool John Lennon Airport for 24 hours with hundreds of other people. Most of them were trying to get back home to Poland. I felt very sorry for all the mums and dads that had little children with them. We all tried to help each other and keep our spirits up. In the end all the fights to everywhere were cancelled. I think they said that the pilots and cabin crew could not get to the airport, airplanes were stuck in other airports and there was no more de-icer left to use on the wings of planes so they could take off. Never mind! There are lots more worse things that can happen to a Little Bear!
