Wrote... Hello, I used to attend Beaver Road School and was there in the infants class and later the first and second year in 1981-1983. Our teacher was Mrs Harrison and later Mrs. Bullocks (forgive me if the spelling is wrong) and our headmaster was Mr. Dodds. I later came back to Iraq and finished school and became a doctor (Urologist). I hope all the kids here do well and wish all the best for the new and old teachers.... Is there anyway I could contact my teachers and class mates? Because wish to know how they are now and what the are doing... with my best regards...

Wrote... Beaver Road has been closed for children (except for the Holiday Club) for a few weeks now. But our School has been a very busy place. Joiners, bricklayers, plasterers, plumbers, electricians, floor layers and painters have been very hard at work. Some of your teachers, teaching assistants, office staff and cooks have also been in to lend a hand. Our School is starting to look very, very different. Not from the outside - but just wait till you come inside! You are in for a surprise! It's New Beaver Road from September and there are lots of new teachers and teaching assistants as well whose names you will soon get to know. Enjoy the rest of your holiday. I am off to Vietnam tomorrow! Keep safe. Look after yourselves and see you all soon!

Wrote... WOW!!! Just on a whim I typed in your school and found this wonderful website. My memory is not fantastic, but photos, particularly of the corridors, brought me back to 1979. From March to June of that year, my family lived in Cheadle Hume and I attended the equivalent of Grade 3 (I turned 9 in May of that year). My father was on a four month sabbatical from the Anglican Church of Canada to work with the Church of England, but my brother and I were unable to attend schools in Cheadle Hume due to strict rules that dictated one of our grandfathers had to have been born in England, which was not the case. We, therefore, were luckily transported to your school and that attended by my older brother. What fond memories I have of the school and strong recollections of how much further ahead my classmates were from those I had left behind in Toronto. The first milk order, with cream on top, was a real shock, but with time I adjusted. I have fond memories of track and field days and remember a friend named Paul Turner. I hope to return to Manchester, Cheadle Hume (specifically Mansfield Dr.) and your school in the not too distant future. Your school looks fabulous and I trust it continues to earn accolades and pride. Thank you for stirring my memory. It's difficult to believe it all took place nearly 30 years ago. Well done also to the Boys' football team. The B team won 7-1 against Claremont Primary B (Jack Matthews - Man of the Match - great hat trick and tireless running) plus the A team won 5-0 against Claremont Primary A (Ben Seoul - Man of the Match - Great tackle followed by a wonder strike, No Mr Bullen, it's not your goal LOL). Wrote... THIS IS FOR MUMS AND DADS The latest newsletter from Mr How explains very clearly how poorly our school is treated....and this is nothing new. The same situation applied when Mrs Thomas was Head.( I was Chair of Governors then ) So....what can be done? This problem will not solve itself so, as far as I am concerned (and I say this as a local ratepayer as well as a TA at the school) I am going to write to my local councillor and also my MP....the children of Beaver Road, past and present, are an enormous credit to our City. Why should they get less than everyone else?? Just think how much better they could do if they were treated as fairly as everyone else in Manchester!! The system is flawed and needs changing. In the meantime I have to say that this is a fabulous school, of all creeds, colours and temperaments. Of course there are ups and downs but if the whole world got on with each other as well as the children at Beaver Road, what a wonderful world it would be.

I would like to thank them for the huge contribution they have made to our School. I guess lots of you will have stories to tell about what happened during the week you were away from School. I spent the week in the mountains of the Costa Blanca in Spain. It was great fun but a little bit scary once or twice when I was hanging on to a rock and looking down at the ground a long way below. Those of you who went to Ghyll Head and to Robinwood and tried some of the climbing challenges will know how I felt! I am also looking forward to the Year 5s Kingswood weekend. Wrote... I was a pupil at Beaver Road in the early 1990's. I came onto the website because I now have two nephews and a niece that attend Beaver Road. They enjoy the school as much as I did when I was there, it was a fantastic school and judging by this great website it still is. Also, great to see so many of my ol... erm, former teachers still teaching, hello Mr. Walsh, Mrs. Platt and Mrs. Walch. I now live and work in Central London and I am lucky enough that my job takes me all over the world, but Beaver Road is still one place I feel at home. Plus, with my new adult legs and feet, I could now easily kick a football from the toilets to the nursery, awesome!

Firstly a big hello to all my old classmates in 4A and also to all my teachers. I'm having a good time in France, I'm enjoying my new school and like staying for school dinners even tho I live only a minutes walk away. We have 4 courses and goutine (snack) in the afternoon. We play handball and other sports, I've been in goal and saved them all . I really love my new French handwriting which is very curly and grown up looking,. During my half term holiday (2 weeks) I have been going to an activity centre, I have been pony riding and making plaster masks and hats based on the carnival that's taking place in my town at the moment - it lasts 3 months and every Saturday and Sunday the parade takes place in the town square and everyone throws confetti and dances with their arms in the air. I left Beaver Rd in 1982 along with Graham Nish, Nigel Kay, Lee Horrocks, Rowan Purdy etc. and can honestly say that I LOVED my time at Beaver Rd. Whenever I see any of my old mates "out and about" we always chat about the happy times we all had as kids, and some of the things we all used to get up to! Wrote... I was a pupil 1944 1948. We were allowed out of school to see the first diesel train 10000 do it's first run through Didsbury. Discipline was by the dreaded Strap. The Headmaster gave me the strap because I did not eat my lentil soup. I cannot face lentils still. We followed the progress of the War on maps in class. 1945 we went into Didsbury to see Winston Churchill drive through in an open car. We spent our dinner money 5p on sweets and a pennorth of fish bits from the chippy. After school we walked home! No 4X4s then!

If I remember correctly I was made captain of the boys athletics team, and Suzie Whitelegg was girls' captain. I think I was also a librarian. Have happy memories of the school. Wrote... It is lovely to find this excellent site. I was a pupil at Beaver Road between September 1953 and the summer of 1958 when the family moved to Lewes in Sussex. My father, John Williams, was Rector at St. Nicholas Church, Burnage. Fifty years later I am Senior Deputy Head at Lincoln Christ's Hospital School in Lincoln, and soon to retire. What do I remember of Beaver Road ? - cycling to road in a little seat on the back of my Mother's black bike - hot milk puddings in the steamy hut which was the canteen - Monday rice pudding, Tuesday tapioca, Wednesday sago, Thursday semolina, Friday rice pudding with jam. This was all part of the post-war diet trying to improve the health of the nation - ice slides in the playground - having to make a raffia table mat which I absolutely hated because I couldn't do it .... and, children don't read this ... 'losing' it behind a cupboard so I had to be given something else to do. The class teacher was a lady I thought was really hard - Miss Wildgoose - learning my times tables - wooden double desks with folding seats - being slippered on my first day at school for throwing bricks at another child! I may just be mistaken about the timing of this particular memory, but the rest is certainly true! - and friends - Lynford Dean, Michael Watkins, James Corbett. Where are you now? And a request. As part of my own retirement event sometime soon, I would like to have a set of digital photos of schools at which I was a pupil, a student or a teacher. I am having difficulties in downloading a picture from your excellent site because I don't have the right software, so I would be grateful if you could send me a general view of the outside please.
